Approval Process for a Core Skills Profile for Adults (CSPA) Interpreter

If you employ a qualified and experienced literacy and numeracy trainer and assessor in your organisation, you can request Skills SA approval to enable them to undertake and complete a CSPA interpretation for your learners as part of the Upfront Assessment of Need (UAN) process.

Step 1

Review the information on the types of qualifications and experience that Skills SA are seeking in CSPA interpreters. These examples are not exhaustive, and Skills SA has access to a panel of foundation skills industry experts who can provide advice on whether other qualifications or experience not listed would meet the Skills SA minimum.

If you believe your team member meets these requirements send an email to the purchaseplanningandstragegy@sa.gov.au inbox, outlining your request for approval, and attach a copy of your team member’s resume.

Skills SA will contact you if further information or clarification is needed.

Minimum requirements:

The interpretation of CSPA assessment results must only be undertaken by literacy and numeracy trainers and assessors who hold, at a minimum:

  • literacy and numeracy trainer and assessor qualification at AQF Certificate IV, or a higher AQF qualification in English language and/or literacy and/or numeracy, and
  • 2 years’ full time or equivalent part-time experience in training and assessing literacy and numeracy in an adult education environment, and
  • trainer and assessor qualification requirements as specified by the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015 or its successor.

Qualifications examples

Relevant examples of suitable practitioner qualifications:

  • TAE80113 Graduate Diploma of Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Practice (and its equivalent TAE70111)
  • TAE80213 Graduate Diploma of Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Leadership
  • 30957 QLD Certificate IV in Language, Literacy & Numeracy Assessment and Training
  • TAE50122 Diploma in VET (Advanced Training and Assessment) that included LLN specific units (TAELLN511 and TAELLN512)
  • 11025NAT Certificate IV in Teaching an Additional Language – TESOL in combination with any of the listed skill sets or units of competency
  • Bachelor of Education, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma of Education in combination with any of the listed skill sets or units of competency.

Relevant skill sets and units of competency examples:

Practitioners with a Bachelor of Education, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma of Education will need to have in addition at least one of the following:

  • TAESS00009 - Address Foundation Skills in Vocational Practice Skill Set
  • TAESS00026 - Foundation Skills Integration Skill Set
  • TAELLN501 Support the development of adult language, literacy and numeracy skills
  • TAELLN511 Lead the development of adult literacy skills + TAELLN512 Lead the development of adult numeracy skills
  • TAELLN805 Design and conduct pre-training assessment of adult language, literacy and numeracy skills
  • TAELLN806 Lead the delivery of adult language, literacy and numeracy support services
  • TAELLN801 Analyse and apply adult literacy teaching practices + TAELLN802 Analyse and apply adult numeracy teaching practices
  • TAELLN804 Implement and evaluate delivery of adult language, literacy and numeracy skills

Relevant experience examples:

Practitioners will need to demonstrate 2 years full time or equivalent part-time experience in training and assessing literacy and numeracy in an adult education environment for example:

  • Adult community education sector
  • Vocational education and training sector
  • Adult re-entry school
  • Skills for Education and Employment program
  • Adult Migrant English Program

Step 2

Skills SA will advise in an email if your request has been approved and if not what further development the proposed CSPA interpreter may need.

Where approval is given, Skills SA will organise a 30-minute meeting with your approved CSPA interpreter to induct them, and following this the interpreter may commence completing interpretations.

The first 10 CSPA interpretations completed by your new interpreter will be moderated by very experienced interpreters for learning and consistency purposes. Detailed information about this is provided during the induction process.
