Masterclasses are being offered to enhance the capability of VET teachers, trainers and assessors, and leaders in organisations delivering nationally accredited training in South Australia.

Masterclasses will support participants to undertake a work-based project that addresses a training, assessment or learning challenge to enhance quality delivery and assessment of VET courses.

Each Masterclass will include three full day workshops from which projects will be developed and progressed.

Participants will receive ongoing mentoring from experienced facilitators throughout the project.

The Masterclasses will conclude with a final Review Forum, where each participant will present the outcomes of their project.

A register of participants who have successfully completed a Masterclass will form the basis of a South Australian panel of experts who can share their projects and support other VET trainers and assessors in these key focus areas.

Addressing LLN in VET

Measuring language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills using the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) is only useful if something tangible is done with the results.

The ACSF has made its way into mainstream VET training because LLN skills are now recognised as being central to all vocational learning. With references to the ACSF in Training Packages, and pre-training assessment policy, the ACSF is now everybody’s business.

Two Masterclasses are being offered:

eLearning for teachers and trainers in VET

Adoption of online learning in the delivery of qualifications to trainees and apprentices.

This Masterclass focuses on the strategies, understandings and practices needed to become an effective eLearning practitioner.

eLearning is much more than moving conventional teaching to an online environment. Successful eLearning approaches require new knowledge, skills and pedagogies, coupled with innovative course design.

Drawing on the latest research and models of best practice, the Masterclass offers:

  • ongoing interactive eLearning, with support and mentoring from experienced facilitators
  • an investigation of a relevant, real-world problem.

On successful completion of the Masterclass you will be able to:

  • demonstrate understanding of eLearning environment and associated pedagogies
  • develop, design and deliver an effective eLearning course
  • design lessons and create activities that encourage and engage students
  • design and implement an action learning project that is contextualised to your workplace
  • apply competency-based assessment in an online environment
  • overcome challenges and develop implementation strategies
  • manage various class sizes and obtain and give feedback
  • use asynchronous discussion boards, webinars (recorded), share texts, videos and audio files to complete activities which will be contextualised to your work and support your problem of practice project.

Assessment in the workplace

The reputation of Australia’s VET system relies on consistency in assessment judgements. Clause 1.8 of the Standards for RTOs 2015 is explicitly concerned with consistency, specifying Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence.

The purpose of this workshop series is to:

  • address existing barriers or systemic issues faced by training providers in assessing students, including apprentices and trainees, in the workplace
  • support the delivery of innovative approaches to quality training and assessment services.

Participants will learn more about workplace assessments and:

  • enhance the quality, validity and reliability of their workplace assessment practice
  • link the amount of training and assessment, with what industry needs
  • explore contemporary training and assessments (tools and concepts and processes)
  • review obligations for compliance.

To attend this Masterclass, see Register for the Masterclass – Assessment in the workplace.

Action based learning with Action Learning Institute

Action based learning methodologies utilise industry engagement to deliver training that supports exploratory and experiential student learning.

Participants will form action learning sets and practice a range of approaches, to design and implement an action learning project for a qualification on their RTO scope.

By the end of the Masterclass, participants will have a sound understanding of and practical experience in:

  • Action learning and a unique model for delivery
  • Assessment methodology design
  • Cloud technologies to support evidence-based assessment
  • Quality and compliance considerations for project-based learning
  • Design principles for project-based learning
