The Department offers a range of building capability opportunities for RTOs and the VET workforce as part of our commitment to supporting a high quality and responsive VET sector.

As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting a high quality and responsive training sector, the Department for Innovation and Skills offers a range of building capability opportunities for training providers and the South Australian ACE and VET workforce

Professional learning to support a high performing training workforce, and RTO and sector-led projects are available to support innovation, quality delivery and growth.

Current and upcoming professional development opportunities

Be at the forefront of innovation and quality education; register now for professional development to ignite your thinking and accelerate your performance.


Spark your thinking and connect with colleagues at the Building Capability Ignite Series.

The series is held twice yearly in April and August and includes:

  • Professional development webinars for ACE and VET practitioners on teaching and learning topics
  • Professional development webinars for ACE and RTO managers, team leaders and other staff on business topics
  • Spotlight webinars on Departmental initiatives, delivered by Departmental staff with an opportunity for audience questions
  • Networking opportunities, which are in-person as appropriate.

The next Building Capability Ignite Series is planned to commence 31 August to 10 September 2021 – save the date! The program will be released shortly.

Deepen your knowledge and skills in a masterclass focused on blended learning, assessment or foundation skills.

Masterclasses are delivered using an action-learning approach over 4-8 weeks, mapped to units in the Training and Assessment (TAE) training package.

There is an option for practitioners to achieve a Statement of Attainment for mapped units on a co-contribution basis, as a pathway to a higher-level TAE qualification.

Become an accredited Mental Health First Aider and learn how to provide initial assistance to a person developing a mental health problem or who is in a mental health crisis.

The Department is supporting eligible individuals to undertake:

  • Mental Health First Aid standard course (in-person and blended)
  • Youth Mental Health First Aid (in person and blended)
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid (in person)
  • Youth Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid (in person).

Subsidised training for ACE and RTO staff is now more accessible than ever.

Are you a trainer or educator seeking to take your practice to the next level? Consider enrolling in a subsidised skill set or diploma such as:

•    Diploma of Vocational Education and Training
•    Diploma of Training Design and Development
•    Address Foundation Skills in Vocational Practice Skill Set
•    Advanced Assessor Skill Set
•    Deliver E-Learning Skill Set

Are you a manager or administrator? Consider enrolling in a subsidised course or skill set such as:

•    Certificate IV or Diploma in Leadership and Management
•    Certificate IV or Diploma in Project Management
•    Diploma of Quality Auditing
•    Cyber Security Threat Assessment and Risk Management Skill Set
•    Manage Big Data Skill Set
•    Quality Management Skill Set

And many others.

Training provider and sector-led projects

Build your organisation’s capability to deliver through a Building Capability Project.

Eligible providers can apply for Building Capability Projects to develop and trial innovative approaches, and research and respond to industry and employer needs through VET and other skills products.
